Windsurfing: Shoreham Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: Session time: 3-5pm Surf / Sea State: Low tide: 5.15pm Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Sunshine! Max Speed: Distance Covered:
A completely un-expected and consequently very satisfying afternoon
session. The overnight gale quickly blew itself out in the morning and by
lunchtime I had resigned myself to a windsurfing-less day. However around
1pm I noticed that the breeze seemed to be picking up again and then Jon
called to say he was at Shoreham and it was windy so I decided I might as
well have a look. Albeit still more in hope than expectation since the
forecast suggested it would drop off around 3pm.
Not much on arrival but it was a glorious summer-esque sunny and warm day
so I rigged the big kit anyway, encouraged slightly by Pat who was planing
intermittently on his 5.7. By the time I had changed into my wetsuit the
wind had picked up a notch and woohoo I planed pretty much straight off the
beach - all good! Contrary to the forecast the wind then stayed fairly
constantly at this level for the rest of the afternoon (must've been a sea
breeze...;) allowing a cruisey summer-style grooving session. Not
particularly exciting but great to be out there nicely powered up and
enjoying the good weather. The session scored extra points for some good
tacking practice and completion of a fair few clean ones which was very
satisfying. Big kit conditions = 2 stars, unexpected wind = 4 stars, so
overall a respectable 3. :)
